Scientific Director of IBCRF Presents The Long-Term Results Of A Landmark IBCRF Study, Chicago, June 2, 2007
June 2007
(Chicago, IL.) - Dr. Richard Love, Scientific director of IBCRF, today presented the long-term results of a landmark IBCRF study of surgical oophorectomy (ovary removal) and tamoxifen as adjuvant treatment for operable breast cancer in premenopausal women. The findings are that after 10 years, compared to no adjuvant therapy, this safe treatment saved 18% of women regardless of whether their tumors were tested for hormonal receptors and 33% of those with tumors with hormonal receptors. The magnitude of the survival benefit in women whose tumors had hormonal receptors is equivalent to that seen with usual adjuvant chemotherapy and hormonal therapy given in the United States.
